The Characters
Mookeeo
|
Mookeeo is a tenacious, adventurous risk taker. His focus on far sighted issues gives him a patient, persistent, steady attitude. He is the idealistic
"feeoo" of the finmen and also the most naïve. Supremely confident, he believes he will overcome all obstacles, no matter how impossible, to achieve his goals. He makes corny rhymes and thinks he’s funny when he says,
"I’m a poet and don’t know it." He hates sharks and goo passionately, fears orcas, respects, but does not fear sperm whales, and loves hana. He is not a bully, but he is big, strong, and insensitive.

Nina
|
Nina always wants to hana and can be a sexual tease. Her sharp mind saves the finmen from some of their most dangerous dilemmas but she can be subject to vivacious highs and also bouts of depression. She does not fear sharks but is not as comfortable with the unknowns in their adventure than the two male finmen. Nina loves to sing and dance, Her favorite actress is Mae West.

Doak
|
Doak can be brash and hot-tempered. He is also more shortsighted, impulsive, and emotional than Mookeeo. He loves to sing and show off his athleticism. He is unsympathetic and impatient with huwees. He peppers his language with slang and his favorite TV show is Star-Trek.

Jeanie
|
Jeanie is a dolphin trainer and former schoolteacher. She becomes dedicated to the finmen, sometimes to the point of being blind to their faults. Her patience, calm, steady and loving attitude help the finmen through their toughest times.

John
|
John is a marine biologist who becomes baffled and astounded when he meets the finmen. He becomes suspicious of their origins, but unlike most macho men, John listens and contemplates before charging ahead. Eventually, he too, becomes sympathetic to their cause. He is earthy, insensitive, wears clashing clothes, hates to wear a tie, likes hunting, diving, and jeeps.

Ivory
|
“Who’s king of the jungle? Ivory would say. “Those cowardly lions run away whenever I come near.” Ivory risks his life against a more dangerous foe and joins the finmen crusade.

Talon
|
Talon is proud, cocky, and full of himself. He takes credit for everything, including saving the skin of the finmen.
|
Bolt
|
Bolt, once mighty and strong, had been downcast in his older age. His encounter with Doak restores his courage leading him to become the buffalo who would go where no others would dare venture.
|
Andes
|
Andes loves to wander, especially in the mountains, and her wanderlust leads her to join the finmen brigade.
|
Chinny
|
Chinny is clever and mischievous but he hates water cause he can’t swim.
|
Rakeem
|
Strong and mighty Rakeem goes to great depths to help the finmen cause.

Mike Stinziani
|
Mike “Stinz” Stinziani, an ambitious CNN reporter, publicizes the journey of the finmen and their allies.

Frank Coleman
|
Frank Coleman, veterinarian at Monterey Zoo, rescues the finmen.
|
Tom Hanson
|
Tom Hanson, Executive Director of Monterey Zoo, provides a home for the finmen before he sours on their plan.

Alan Huff
|
Alan Huff, Director of the Marine Park, wants to show the finmen who’s boss.
|
Recon
|
Recon searches for life on an alien planet, encounters the dolphins, strikes a deal with them, and shows them a new medium of communication.
|
Dermar
|
Dermar uses nanotechnology to bioengineer the dolphins into finmen.
